An Invitation to Evangelisation
'A sort of World Youth Day for adults' is how Sydney Diocese's SNAPSHOT describes the series of International Conferences on the New Evangelisation (ICNE); more seriously, 'a practical market place of ideas and a source of inspiration for the New Evangelisation across Europe and the world'. This is why Sydney Diocese is sending an even bigger delegation to the Brussels ICNE, 28 October - 5 November 2006. 'Why are the English missing out on all this?' complained a silver-haired English woman now resident in Vienna. 'Let's put that right!' says Mary Callan from York. Mary attended last year's ICNE in Lisbon, and would love to take a delegation from Middlesbrough Diocese to Brussels, especially as the Bishop urges us all to rediscover our calling to evangelise. Speakers include England's Timothy Radcliffe OP and the English delegation will include Bishop Ambrose Griffiths. This year Mary will lead a workshop on the theme 'What are boys for? Can the Old Testament help us?'
Delegates can attend all or part of the Conference. The full fee is €200. Accommodation is free with host families. To register, visit www.bruxellestoussaint2006.be or contact Mary for further information, tel 01904 653836, email dunedesertplanet@btinternet.com
Mary's report of Lisbon 2005 ICNE is on the Diocesan website and can be read at www.middlesbrough-diocese.org.uk/news/fmarycallan.html.
Free Evangelisation Resources
The Catholic Agency to Support Evangelisation (CASE) is offering every parish in the diocese free resources to help them become more effective centres of evangelisation.
CASE was launched last April by the Bishops of England and Wales, to resource, equip and train, Catholics for mission. To mark its first anniversary since launch, the Agency is offering every parish in the country free resources to equip them for evangelisation. Director of CASE, Mgr Keith Barltrop, said: “In the last twelve months the CASE team has been busy creating a variety of resources including websites, leaflets, outreach cards, training workshops and courses. We invite parishes and Catholic groups to make free use of these materials so that together we can be actively sharing our faith in England and Wales.”
On Wednesday April 6th, the Bishop responsible for the Agency, the Rt. Rev Malcolm McMahon OP of Nottingham, was guest of honour at CASE’s first birthday celebration. Around fifty people gathered for Mass, lunch, and the cutting of a specially made “mission” birthday cake. Bishop McMahon said: “This is a tremendously exciting development. The task of effectively sharing and celebrating our faith is the most pressing task for the Catholic Church in this country. CASE is an invaluable resource for the Catholic community. I encourage you to make use of their resources.”
In the year ahead, projects in the pipeline include the publication of a National Evangelisation Directory which will be published on-line in July. This will provide a comprehensive list of evangelisation resources for the Catholic community. Other future developments include the piloting of a Seeker Centre for enquirers as part of the on-going work of the Catholic Enquiry Office which is run by CASE. The Agency is also working on an ecumenical project to explore how Church buildings can be used to share the Gospel message
More information and materials are available from the downloads page of the CASE website which can be found at www.caseresources.org.uk Those working with RCIA groups or with those seeking to become Catholic should also see www.life4seekers.co.uk.
